In Malaysia, the textiles and apparel industry is a very promising and stable industry. The industry first accelerated in the early 1970s when the country embarked on export-oriented industrialisation. With exports valued at RM9.3 billion while imports amounted to RM5.2 billion, Malaysia has become a net exporter of textiles and textile products.
There are at least 670 licensed companies in production with investments of RM8.3 billion in the textile and apparel industry, creating a high demand for professional textile workers as the underlying thread that holds whole industry together.
Professional textile workers produce fiber, upholstery and cloth, and then transform them into products that we use everyday, from clothes in the fashion industry through to sheets, towels, furniture and more.
